CIRCULAR 9 August 1996
- THIRD ASIA-PACIFIC LEGAL METROLOGY FORUM - 3 NOVEMBER 1996 (SUNDAY), VANCOUVER, CANADA
- 1.1 This is to inform all Forum members that following on from Circular 8 in May, preparations for the third APLMF is progressing well. We have been liaising with the Legal Metrology Branch, Industry Canada on arrangements and hotel accommodation. A General Information leaflet has been prepared by Industry Canada for members attending the Forum. A brochure on Vancouver: Spectacular by Nature has also been enclosed.
- 1.2 The venue for the Forum is the Pan Pacific Hotel, Vancouver. Industry Canada has arranged for special rates (from 31 October to 3 November) to Forum members attending the meeting. A hotel booking form - Reservation Reply (blue in colour) - is enclosed. Please note that in order to receive the special rates, reservations must be made before 28 September, as indicated in the General Information brochure. A brochure on the Pan Pacific Hotel is enclosed.
- 1.3 A list of other hotels is also enclosed for delegates who do not wish to book at the Pan Pacific Hotel.
- 1.4 A draft agenda for the Forum meeting is enclosed.
- WORKING PARTY MEETING - 1 NOVEMBER 1996 (FRIDAY), VANCOUVER, CANADA
- 2.1 We have received replies from most Forum members that they would send delegations to attend meetings of the Working Parties if held prior to the third APLMF meeting.
- 2.2 We would like to confirm that the Working Parties on Legislative Harmonisation, Prepacked Articles, Training and Intercomparison of Calibration and Pattern Approval Testing will meet on 1 November (Friday) prior to the Forum meeting. The meetings will be held sequentially as the delegations may not have sufficient representation at separate Working Party meetings if they were to be held separately.
- 2.3 A draft agenda for the meeting of the Working Parties is enclosed.
- CONFIRMATION OF ATTENDANCE AT THIRD APLMF AND WORKING PARTIES MEETING
We have received positive response from the following economies regarding attendance at the Forum and Working Parties meetings:
Canada (2), Indonesia (2), Republic of Korea (4), New Zealand (1), Russian Federation (3), Chinese Taipei (4), USA (6), and Vietnam (6).
We would like to urge those economies who have not yet responded to do so as soon as possible in order to facilitate preparation for the meeting.
- FORUM SURVEYS
The following surveys on:
- Specialised Legal Metrology Test Facilities and accessibility to these facilities;
- National Metrological Requirements for Utility Meters; and
- Legal Metrology Industry Consultative Structures;
have been circulated on 28 May and replies are expected in by 31 July. We would appreciate it if members return their replies as soon as possible, in order that reports of these surveys can be prepared for the Vancouver meeting.
- 1st APEC CONFERENCE ON STANDARDS & CONFORMANCE
- 5.1 The above Conference on "The Need For Standards & Conformance in the Asia-Pacific" has been postponed to 9 - 11 October 1996 at the Diamond Hotel, Manila, the Philippines, to be in conjunction with the Standards & Conformance SubCommittee which has been postponed.
- 5.2 A copy of the up-dated conference brochure and registration form has been enclosed with this Circular and we would urge all members to support the conference.
