CIRCULAR 31 September 2000
Information from the Secretariat
- 7th APLMF AND WORKING GROUP MEETINGS
2 - 4 OCTOBER 2000, GRAND HOTEL TAIPEI, CHINESE TAIPEI
A folder with documents for the 7th meeting in Taipei have been despatched to all delegates in the first week of September. If you have not received a copy, please contact the Secretariat. However, additional copies will be available in Taipei.
To date, the Secretariat has received registrations for attendance about fifty delegates and observers from thirteen economies, namely Australia - 4; Canada - 2; PR China - 2; Indonesia - 2; Japan - 4; Republic of Korea - 3; Malaysia - 4; New Zealand - 1; Singapore - 1; Chinese Taipei - 17; Thailand - 2; USA - 2 and Vietnam - 2.
International and regional organisations have also been invited and Mr JF Magana, the 'nominated BIML Director' will attend representing WELMEC and Mr Gerard Faber, President of CIML, representing OIML and a representative from APLAC.
- ASEAN SEMINAR ON LEGAL METROLOGY
5 - 6 OCTOBER 2000, GRAND HOTEL TAIPEI, CHINESE TAIPEI
The ASEAN seminar will be held immediately after the APLMF meeting from 5-6 October at the Grand Hotel, Taipei and all APLMF delegates and observers are invited to attend. The PTB will be providing funding to assist the attendance of ASEAN delegates to the seminar. An announcement of the seminar and a draft program has been included in the APLMF folder of documents. Information on the number of participants attending will be provided as soon as information is available.
- ** ELECTION OF PRESIDENT AND SECRETARIAT
This important issue will be discussed at the 7th Forum meeting in Taipei. A questionnaire on this issue is included in this Circular and all members are requested to reply by 26 September 2000, in order that any proposals by members can be discussed by the Forum membership in Taipei. An e-mail letter of this survey has been circulated to members on 11 September 2000.
- LOCATION OF THE 8TH FORUM IN 2001
This issue will also be discussed at the Taipei meeting and members are invited to consider hosting the 8th Forum meeting. The previous meetings of the Forum have been held in Australia 1994, PR China 1995, Canada 1996, Japan 1997, Republic of Korea 1998 and Indonesia 1999. As stated in the last Circular, the most cost effective location for our active members would probably be S E Asia but a meeting on the west coast of America could assist in involving our Latin American members.
- SURVEY ON TAXIMETERS
SURVEY ON MUTUAL RECOGNITION The secretariat would like to thank all those economies which provided responses. Reports on these two surveys have been included in the document folder and the reports will be discussed at the Taipei meeting.
- APEC SCSC MEETING IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM - Papers presented by APLMF
The 3rd APEC SCSC meeting will be held in Brunei Darussalam on 17-18 September. The APLMF has received funding from the APEC SCSC to conduct a study tour in 2001, and a report and proposal on the study will be presented to the SCSC. This report, the "Metrological control for rice moisture measurement" is included for your information.
Mrs K Marston, the APLMF regional training coordinator, has contributed a paper on "Internationally harmonised and competency based train-the-trainer courses in trade metrology" to the APEC SCSC conference to be held in association with the meetings in Brunei Darussalam. This paper is included with this Circular.
- COUNTRY REPORTS
The Secretariat has received country reports for New Zealand and Singapore and these are included with this Circular. I would appreciate it if members would forward a copy of their report for the Taipei meeting as soon as possible.
- INFORMATION ON ARRIVAL IN TAIPEI
The BSMI has requested that these 2 maps be provided to members to facilitate their travel arrangements to the Grand Hotel Taipei:
(1) Map of CKS Airport Shuttle and (2) Map of Airport Terminal 2.
