Information from the Secretariat

TRAINING SEMINARS/WORKSHOPS
Following on from Circular 16 in January, the Secretariat would like to provide an update on developments on the training seminars/workshops. The two seminars/workshops to be held in Shanghai are:

  • - Introduction to High Capacity Weighing, and
  • -Train the Trainer on Implementation of OIML R76

The details of the seminars/workshops are given below:

  1. Seminar/Workshop on INTRODUCTION OF HIGH CAPACITY WEIGHING

    It is planned to hold this workshop in Shanghai, PR of China from Monday, 31 August to Wednesday 2 September 1998.

    The content of the course will cover automatic rail-weighbridges as per OIML R106, totalising hopper weighers as per OIML R107, and belt weighers as per OIML R50.
  2. The first TRAIN THE TRAINER WORKSHOP ON IMPLEMENTATION OF OIML R76

    The first Train the Trainer workshop on Implementation of OIML R76 will be held in Shanghai, PR of China immediately after the seminar/workshop on Introduction to High Capacity Weighing from Thursday 3 to Thursday 10 September, 1998.

    This workshop will be very practical with each participant having access to a non- automatic weighing instrument and a set of certified masses to conduct all the testing procedures themselves. As well as this, participants will be given instruction, practice and ideas on how to conduct their own training courses within their own economy. Each participant will receive the full training module which includes the trainers manual, first edition of the procedure manual and the training video.

    As this workshop is to be very practical, the number of participants able to attend will be strictly limited to between 10 - 20 persons to ensure maximum success.

Program
The tentative program for the two workshops is as follows:

  • Day 1 & 2 - Introduction to high capacity weighing
  • Day 3 - Technical visit within Shanghai to see high capacity weighing
  • Day 4, 5 & 6 - Train the Trainer on the Implementation of OIML R76
  • Day 7 - Free day
  • Day 8, 9 & 10 - Train the trainer on the Implementation of OIML R76
  • Day 11 - Technical visit to scale manufacturer
Funding

Funding support has been received to provide some financial assistance to developing member economies to fund one participant per developing economy to attend the workshops.

It would greatly assist the Secretariat in planning if member economies would return the attached Application Form to indicate their interest and the number of participants who would be attending the seminars/workshops.

Please return the Application Form to the Secretariat by 15 April 1998.
