Information from the Secretariat

  1. 6th APLMF MEETING: 7 - 9 September 1999, Hotel Putri Bali, Nusa Dua, Bali

    The secretariat has received registration for attendance at the 6th Forum from twenty eight delegates from thirteen economies and two international organisations namely:

    Australia (3), Canada (2), Hong Kong China (1), Indonesia (?), Japan (5) Republic of Korea (4), Lao PDR (1), Malaysia (3), Mongolia (1), New Zealand (1), Russia (2), Chinese Taipei (1), Thailand (2), B. Athane, Director BIML (1) and Dr E. Seiler from the PTB (1).

    We would appreciate receiving information from those member economies that have not informed the secretariat to do so as soon as possible.
    • 1.1 Draft agenda and program

      A draft agenda for the Forum and Working group is enclosed with this Circular. If members would like to have any particular matters for discussion to be included in the agenda, please inform the Secretariat.

      A program for the three-day meeting is also enclosed. Members are requested to note that the Working Groups meeting is on 7 September (all day) and the Forum meeting is on both days of 8 - 9 September. Please refer to the detailed program.
    • 1.2 Welcome reception/dinner - APLMF

      The Convenor APLMF will host a welcome reception/dinner for all APLMF delegates and observers on the evening of 8 September (Wednesday).
    • 1.3 Farewell reception/dinner - Directorate Metrology, Indonesia

      The Directorate Metrology, Indonesia will host a farewell reception/dinner for all APLMF delegates and observers on the evening of 9 September (Thursday).
    • 1.4 Conference lunches - Directorate Metrology, Indonesia

      Additionally, the Directorate Metrology, Indonesia will host the conference lunches on the three meeting days.
    • 1.5 Information on hotel accommodation

      This is to inform all delegates attending the sixth APLMF meeting in Bali, that they are required to book hotel accommodation themselves directly with the hotel. The information is as follows:

      To facilitate organisation of the receptions/dinners, it would be appreciated if members fill in and return the attached reply form to indicate their attendance and also to provide details of their arrival, departure and hotel accommodation for record purposes.


  2. MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING (MOU)

    To-date, we have received the signed MoU from the following economies: Australia, Mongolia, New Zealand, Chinese Taipei, Thailand. A number of economies have also indicated that they are in the process of doing so. We would appreciate it if member economies take appropriate action on this issue and inform the secretariat on when the MoU would be returned.

  3. APLMF TRAINING PROGRAMS

    In Circular 25, we announced the APLMF's Train the Trainer Course on Verification and Inservice Inspection of Non-automatic Weighing Instruments to be held in Bandung, Indonesia:

    The course is open to all members of APLMF. The total number of participants is expected to be twenty-four (24). Currently, we have eighteen (18) participants from Directorate Metrology, Indonesia and there are vacancies for six (6) additional participants from member economies. To-date, we have received registration for three participants from Japan.

    Members wishing to attend the training course are invited to submit their names to the Secretariat and this will be on a first come-first served basis. Participants are also required to fund their own attendance for airfare, hotel accommodation and other miscellaneous expenses.

    The APLMF will provide all training course materials and Directorate Metrology will provide funding for lunches and coffee breaks during the training course.

  4. FUTURE WORK PROGRAM OF THE APLMF

    In Circular 24, it was stressed that an important priority at the Sixth Forum meeting will be the "development of a work program for the next two years that builds on our past achievements" and that each Forum member prepare a brief report on current developments in its legal metrology system and identify directions of future change.

    All Forum members are asked to submit their reports on "Current Developments in the Legal Metrology System and Directions of Future Change" to the Secretariat by 31 July so they can be distributed in the Forum papers.

    The secretariat would like to remind members to submit the above paper to the secretariat as soon as possible. To-date, we have received papers from Lao PDR and Chinese Taipei (on the newly reorganised Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI).
  5. POSITION OF CONVENOR AND SECRETARIAT

    As all members are aware, the positions of the Convenor and Secretariat will terminate at the end of this year and member economies were requested to nominate for these positions. We wish to inform members that to-date, we have not received any nominations or proposals and we would like to urge all members to give serious consideration to this issue.
