An overview of the MEDEA 2 Project / Training Programme
MEDEA 2 will run from May 2018 to 2021.
Active participation in the networks of APMP (Asia Pacific Metrology Program) and APLMF (Asia-Pacific Legal Metrology Forum) provides developing economies with access to training to support them keeping abreast of the latest developments in metrology.
You can see what training is planned as part of MEDEA 2 below.

The Coordination Committee (CC) for the MEDEA project has finalised the procedures for participation in the joint APMP-APLMF-PTB project, in particular with respect to proposing, preparing, monitoring and evaluating activities supported by the project. These procedures will ensure that the project supports activities that are in the interests of each participant organisation (i.e, APMP and APLMF) as well as aligned with the project objectives and expected results. The monitoring and evaluation elements will support the trainers as well as each organisation in assessing the success of the training activities, not only in terms of individual participants but also to support the development of the NMI or legal metrology authority.

2020 Programme
2020 MEDEA Survey Results
The current COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in the rescheduling of many of the planned activities of the MEDEA 2.0 Project. This situation has a direct impact on the utilization of the budget allocated for the various activities as there is a time limit for the disbursement of the said budget. Specific activities that have been affected include workshops and trainings under both APMP and APLMF, KRISS-GMA technical trainings and CABUREK Asia-Pacific1 workshops.
Besides discussions on COVID-19 impacts on the overall MEDEA Project, the MEDEA Coordination Committee (CC) has been deliberating on the design of the MEDEA 3.0 Project that will succeed MEDEA 2.0 Project after April 2021. MEDEA 3.0 will focus on capacity building measures to assist members to contribute to their economy’s priorities in relation to key UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In view of the above developments and the current difficult and unusual situation, the MEDEA CC developed a questionnaire designed to capture APLMF and APMP members’ inputs using the following key questions:
1) What access/capacity members have to using virtual and/or digital collaboration tools?;
2) What is the availability of e-learning tools?;
3) How are institutes dealing with the consequences of Covid-19 in terms of the issues that have arisen, support being provided to domestic stakeholders, lessons learned and how APMP and/or APLMF could support them?; and
4) What are the priorities in relation to the identified UN SDGs so we can maximise alignment within MEDEA 3.0?
The link to the on-line questionnaire was circulated to APMP and APLMF members on 25th May 2020 with a deadline for submission of inputs by 2nd June 2020.
In addition to the main MEDEA findings, this report also incorporates results from the BIPM, SIM and CABUREK Asia-Pacific surveys with regard to COVID-19 experiences. Inclusion of these additional results is useful for knowledge sharing and comparison purposes.
We had 77 respondents; 15 Developed Economies, 62 from Developing Economies and 34 Institutes (NMIs, LMAs and DIs) provided inputs.
The results of the questionnaire have assisted us in planning future training and online meetings. APLMF full members can read the report here.
2020 eLearning - In November 2020 eLearning pilots for NAWI (hosted by PTB) and Fuel Dispensers (hosted by Australia) were conducted.
