Training & Development Overview

Training is an important component in developing regional confidence in measurement and testing. APLMF established a Working Group on Training in 1994 and in recognition of the role training plays in the work of the forum the position of Training Coordinator within the Secretariat was established at the 23rd APLMF Meeting in Tokyo in 2016.

Our training programmes identify training needs for legal metrology personnel and matches this with existing resources or develop new programmes to meet identified needs. The aim is to establish regionally consistent training that provides competent staff with the skills and expertise to develop their economy’s measurement infrastructure in alignment with OIML recommendations thus creating a harmonised legal metrology system throughout the region.

There is a growing awareness that lack of access to internationally recognized metrology services in the developing economies in Asia particularly reduces the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises, as they are not in a position – unlike large companies – to make use of service providers abroad, or to build up their own laboratory structure.
