Working Group on Non-Automated Weighing Instruments (NAWI)
Terms of Reference
BACKGROUND
At the 25th Forum meeting in Christchurch, New Zealand, Forum members endorsed the setting up of a Working Group on NAWI. The purpose of this working group being establish is to eliminate:
The Working Group will create an online training module for spring balances and weighbridges which demonstrates the implementation of test procedures based on OIML Recommendations used by the officers in legal metrology authorities.
OBJECTIVES
TARGET OUTCOMES
At the 25th Forum meeting in Christchurch, New Zealand, Forum members endorsed the setting up of a Working Group on NAWI. The purpose of this working group being establish is to eliminate:
- Inconsistencies in the implementation of test procedures;
- Reduce the amount of time consuming and costly training;
- Different interpretation of test procedures by the economies and the trainer during the training;
- Difficulties explaining complex procedures; and
- The need to refresh knowledge and get feedback or follow up after training.
The Working Group will create an online training module for spring balances and weighbridges which demonstrates the implementation of test procedures based on OIML Recommendations used by the officers in legal metrology authorities.
OBJECTIVES
- To contribute to harmonization and standardization of international test procedures based on OIML Recommendations across the Asia Pacific region;
- To enhance the consistency of training by providing information and advice from the qualified experts;
- To improve the technical knowledge and capability of new and experienced legal metrology officers;
- To use simple English to effectively explain the common test procedures;
- To achieve a greater degree of coverage for the target audience using consistent training materials;
- To save time and expense, eliminate the need for travel and remove the need for classroom- based training; and
- To increase the number of people who can access training at low cost.
TARGET OUTCOMES
- Development and establishment of eLearning for spring scale and weighbridges;
- Harmonisation of test method and test procedure with OIML Recommendation, and APLMF Guide;
- Enhance knowledge and capabilities in eLearning modules among members and legal metrology practitioners; and
- Establish experts who will lead the implementation of eLearning modules.
